The key points
- Cost follows the number of distinct page templates, not the number of pages.
- Missing content or photography adds work that has to be priced.
- Booking, payment and CRM integrations each add scope and third-party accounts.
- A fixed-price proposal is the way to compare quotes fairly.
What actually drives the price of a website?
A site with forty pages built from three designs costs less to build than a site with eight pages that each need their own design. What matters is how many distinct layouts have to be designed and built, because repeated layouts are filled with content rather than engineered again.
Content is the second driver. If your service descriptions and photographs are ready, the build can start from them. If they must be written or sourced, that is real work and belongs in the quote. Integrations and review rounds complete the picture: each connection to a booking tool, payment provider or CRM adds setup and testing, and each extra round of changes adds design time.
Why do two quotes for the same website differ so much?
Usually because they are not quoting the same thing, the same trap buyers hit when they compare software development quotes. One may include search setup, performance work, source code handover and a support period; another may leave those out and charge for them later. A low headline figure with a long list of extras is not cheaper, only harder to compare.
Ask each supplier to list what is included, who owns the source code and accounts at the end, how many review rounds are covered, and what support follows launch. Written scope, not the total, is what tells you whether the quotes match.
- What is included, and what is billed separately
- Who owns the code, domain and hosting at the end
- How many review rounds are covered
- What support follows launch, and for how long
How do you get an accurate figure for your own site?
Start with a short conversation about the business, the pages you think you need and the integrations that matter. Our process is a free 30-minute consultation followed by a written proposal within 24 to 48 hours, with the tech stack, milestones and a cost breakdown.
Bring a rough list of pages, examples of sites you like, and what you already have in the way of copy and images. The clearer the brief, the closer the first figure is to the final one. If you're budgeting in India, our website cost breakdown for India shows what moves the figure there.
What to have ready for an accurate quote
- A rough list of the pages you expect to need
- Two or three example sites you like, and why
- Whether copy and photography exist or must be created
- Booking, payment or CRM tools the site must connect to
- Who will review work, and how many people
