SaaS & Startups

Build the version that answers your riskiest question

Most first builds are too large. The useful MVP is the smallest thing that tests whichever assumption would sink the business if it were wrong. Both of our internal SaaS builds — a multi-tenant school portal and a restaurant POS — started as the narrow system one operator needed, then earned their scope.

What usually goes wrong

The problems we are most often called in to fix in this sector.

  • Scope that assumes the idea is already validated

Settings screens, admin tooling and dashboards feel like progress and prove nothing. Building them before anyone has paid is the most common way a runway disappears.

  • Multi-tenancy retrofitted too late

Serving a second customer from a system built for one is an expensive rewrite. Where multiple organisations are clearly coming, tenancy belongs in the first architecture.

  • No route to a real user

A product that exists only on a laptop cannot be tested. Deployment, accounts and access need to work from the first week, not the last.

  • Handover that leaves you dependent

Code you cannot access, hosting in someone else's account and no documentation turn your own product into a negotiation. Ownership from day one avoids that entirely.

What we build for SaaS & startups

  • MVPs in four to eight weeks

Scoped around the single assumption worth testing, deployed where real users can reach it, with a tech roadmap for what comes after.

  • Multi-tenant internal SaaS

Role-based access, per-organisation data isolation and the operational modules the business actually runs on, as built for the Little Lumos portal.

  • AI features inside the product

Semantic search, drafting, summarisation and classification built into the product rather than bolted on as a general assistant nobody opens.

The landing page and onboarding path that convert interest into a trial, built to be changed weekly while you are still learning.

SaaS & Startups questions

Small enough to test one assumption. If you cannot name the single belief that would end the business if it were wrong, the scope is not ready yet. Most first builds are two or three times larger than the question they need to answer.

No. Fixed-price engagements keep the incentives clean and the relationship simple, and an agency on your cap table is a complication you will not want during a funding round. We would rather scope smaller than restructure how we are paid.

Sometimes. We audit it first and give you a straight verdict on whether it is worth continuing or faster to restart. Inheriting an unfamiliar codebase is occasionally cheap and occasionally far more expensive than rebuilding.

Usually a few weeks of iteration against real usage, then a decision point. Some products earn a second phase, some need repositioning and some should stop. We will give you our honest read rather than assume continuation.
